Oh Christmas tree…..

My favourite part of Christmas is definitely the moment that we get to put the tree up. So this week we have done just that!

Christmas really starts to come together when the tree goes up! One thing I love is the constant debate that seems to start half way through November, and continues till Christmas day. It normally starts by that one friend thats on facebook who has put there decorations up 6 weeks early!
I mean I suppose you want to get the most out of your decorations but I can also see why we should wait till nearer the time!

Twinkle lights, lots of different baubles.  and lots of love.
Our Christmas tree 2018.

Christmas pet peeves

Since I have shared my Christmas loves, I thought I should probably share my pet peeves as well. It seems as you get older the list grows!

Christmas Tack:
We’re getting to the time of year were we start to overbuy, and the shops are filled with things that we really don’t actually need in our lives. Now let me be clear, When I say tack, Im talking over the top decorations, clothing, presents, that do not have any meaning. OR things that were a good idea at the time! but they was never a good idea.

Over Crowded Shops:
As the big day looms we do seem to loose the plot and go shopping at every opportunity. thousands of shoppers fleeing to town centres, You can’t breathe yet alone think. Shopping is normally my Forte, add crowds into the mix and No. Not for me.

Over Buying:
Ok I am a sucker for doing this, but Im talking massive extents, common guys its not about how many presents are there to open on Christmas day, or how busy the tree is you should never forget Christmas is about love, families coming together and making memories.

Christmas songs on repeat:
Ok So I love Christmas music! but! when that same Christmas song has been on the radio for the 15th time in one day! you have to admit that its starting to get a bit much! Variety is key. If you could send this message on to the shops as-well! Seems every shop you go in at one point has the same bloody song playing.

Seasonal Weight Gain:
Finally we all say that were gonna try and be good over the Festive season I know that I do, but when it comes down to it, there is too much nice food and we all seem to indulge, Never-mind guys, New years goals for this one.  πŸ™‚

My top 5 Christmas films to watch…

It’s completely acceptable in my opinion to watch Christmas films at any time of the year! but since its December, Christmas movies are a MUST! Em is always sneaking the Christmas movie channel on and she has been doing the since November! so I’ve probably watched over 100 festive related movies already this year!
So I thought it would be appropriate to share what my top 5 movies have been this year!

So my Number 1 film, is and always will be The Grinch! My favourite Film to watch at Christmas, It’s funny, its Fictional, and Jim Carey absolutely Rocks this Grimy Christmas Hating Character.

My Next film I have literally fallen in love with is The Holiday Calendar witch is an Netflix.com original! A Single girl, who’s best friend is clearly in love with her, misses all the signs that the magical calander is giving her, to find her true love, whilst she persistently dates the wrong one! A festive love story! Perfect!

Next up, Netflix wins again with me. The Christmas Chronicles, staring Kurt Russell. which was released literally a few days ago. When Christmas goes terribly wrong Santa is put to his paces to make sure all the boys and girls receive their Christmas gifts. Yup. Really enjoyed this film and would definitely suggest this to my friends!

I couldn’t miss these classic Christmas films off my list, Santa Clause, in-fact I mean all 3 of the funny Santa Clause Films with Tim Allen. It’s hard not to picture Tim Allen in Home Improvements, or his voice as Buzz light year, But he really does make an excellent Santa!

Finally, Love Actually, is my number 5 top Christmas film to watch! You can’t really miss this one! it’s on every year! especially over Christmas week. Stories of Love, Christmas Cheer, and Nativities. They didn’t go wrong with that one.

On a side note: none of the above pictures are my own, but have been used in a non profitable way to include joy on my post.

Christmas Food: Perfect Festive Gingerbread

So in yesterdays post ‘10 things I love about Christmas‘ I mentioned that one of my favourite Smells is Gingerbread at Christmas time, So it’s no surprise that my favourite recipe would be Gingerbread.
So today I wanted to share my recipe for the perfect little Gingerbread Men.

What you are going to need:

  • 300 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp teaspoon nutmeg
  • 125 g unsalted butter
  • 100 g soft light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons golden syrup (optional)  – I’ve found that if you haven’t got any golden syrup then it hasn’t ruined the recipe!

What to do:

Step One

First things first, Don’t forget to turn that oven on and Preheat to 180, I’m terrible at forgetting to turn the oven on, make sure that the oven has plenty of time to warm up or your little ginger men will be too soft!  Once that’s has done,  line 2 baking sheets with baking paper.

Step Two

Now to get started with the ingredients, In a large bowl combine the flour, bicarbonate of soda and the spices. Mix those together, so they are evenly spread, but don’t worry too much because your be mixing these again shortly!

Step Three

Melt the butter, sugar and golden syrup in a pan over low heat, make sure your continuously stirring and stir until the sugar dissolves, Once you’re sure you have a smooth looking mixture then add it to the dry ingredients you prepared earlier! Stir in until it forms a tough-looking dough.

Step Four

Time for the fun bit, sprinkle some of your plain flour lightly on a clean kitchen surface and place your dough on top. Roll this out flat but with about a 5mm thickness for a nice Biscuit.  Cut out as many gingerbread characters as you like, I would say gingerbread men, but you could have gingerbread snowmen, Rudolph’s, stars, or anything!. Transfer these to the paper that led out on your baking tray.

Step Five

Place these in your oven for about 12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Keep an eye, and don’t do my trick of forgetting there cooking till black.

Step Six

Leave to cool on the sheet for a few minutes – if you want to hang them as decorations, now is the time to pierce a hole through the top of each with a skewer – then move to a wire rack.

Step Seven

Once completely cooled down, it is your choice, ice the gingerbread men and decorate with sprinkles, sweets and edible glitter or whatever you fancy.

These go nicely with a nice hot choc!

So If you’ve had a go I’d love to see pictures of your Gingerbread, so leave me a message through my Facebook page here.Β

10 Things I love about Christmas!

The month is finally upon us! Happy 1st December guys.Β
It’s insane how quick 2018 has gone by this year, so much has happened.Β
Im really excited that this is the first post of many this month! Ive decided to challenge myself more.
Since its the 1st and Christmas is upon us, I thought I would share with you my top 10 loves about this jolly festive season.

Spending time with loved ones:
This had to go at the top of my list. One of the best and most important things to me when it comes to the Christmas period is the time spent with my loved ones.Β

To be honest I feel like Festivities happen earlier and earlier in the year these days, but I suppose that’s because were just too busy as people now, and there’s just so much fun to fit in.Β Going out around the Christmas market, grabbing a festive hot chocolate and starting to feel the festive feel!Β
When it comes to this time of year and you begin to see little kids faces light up with joy as the thought of Santa coming to visit them it cropping up, Elf is causing mischief on the shelf, how can you not think warm festive vibes.Β

Is there a naughty elf on your shelf this year?

Well this is an obvious one on my list, I love sparkles any time of year! and you should always live by the rule that sparkles and sequins are not just for the holidays! but since they are a holiday favourite, I love how much sparkle is out right now at this time of year.Β

Christmas food & drink:
Theres no way of avoiding it, no matter how hard you’re trying to be good. Maybe its at home, or maybe it’s in the office, Could even be the multitude of nights and meals out in the run up to Christmas.Β

Its time for a festive feast!Β

Festive Colours:Β
I love them all! when you just look at some thing and can think ‘oh it’s so christmasy’. Dark metallic colours always seem to catch my eye. Purples, reds, blues, golds, silver and my favourite colour any way rose gold. Its true that colours really do make the season!

Christmas Decorations:
Ok I admit it, If I had my way the Christmas decs would have been up probably half way through November. You always know that its officially Christmas when the decs have gone up, and the tree lights are twinkling in the background whilst chilling on the sofa, glass of wine in one hand and christmasy cookies in the other! Oh yes!
We don’t have are decs up just yet! but within the next few days the lounge will be twinkling! can not wait!Β

Christmas baubles, fairy lights, the lot!Β

Christmas Jumpers:Β
They spend all year in our drawers waiting for this month! yep thats right, the return of the Christmas jumper and they are definitely on my list of things I love about Christmas. Nothing says Christmas spirit better than a cheesy Christmas selfie in an in-between tasteful but still a little tacky Christmas jumper. HO HO HO.Β

We all have our traditions at this time of year, and granted there’s probably a few that are not on our like list for most of us, BUT traditions are just a thing. Its hard not to get excited about the little things, wether its a day out. a movie you always watch. or what ever it is you do on Christmas eve. I love having traditions that feel just as special every time round!

Christmas winter smells:Β
When it gets to this time of year I love the smells that start popping up, especially gingerbread. Yep, gingerbread ANYTHING.Β
Im a total sucker for christmassy scented candles, bubble bath, room sprays. Literally the lot.Β

Christmas Eve:Β
Finally I think my favourite day, throughout December I think my favourite time of it all has to Christmas eve. Its almost a calm before the storm of Christmas day, but still a very busy day. The hustle and bustle before people eventually just give up and finally start enjoying their Christmas.Β

I bet that there’s so many more things that I could list on what I love about Christmas. I found this a really list of things to write.Β
I’d love to hear others favourite things? Do you have a favourite tradition, smell, food? Leave a comment!
