So you have finally finished writing that amazing piece, you have spent hours on this, and its all ready to go. well, the words are ready, but what about the photos? What are you using to catch the attention of your readers? Remember as bloggers we are all still learning all the time.
Your media is as important as your words!
We all know that your writing content is the most important, however, As much as your writing is so important when it comes to posting your blog post, photographs are just as important. Especially images that are relevant to the subject you are talking about. I mean would you really have photos of food when your talking of fashion? or anything else that’s a complete opposite to what your writing about.
What should I be using to take my Photograph?
Firstly if you are under the impression that you need a fancy camera before you are able to take a decent photo, you are literally incredibly wrong. I mean in this day and age all you need is your phone or your tablet. Your smart device is the perfect tool you can use, to be able to take pictures on. Let us face it. who doesn’t have their phone pretty much 24 hours of the day?
Personally, I own both a DSLR and an iPhone, I am happy to admit that I use both.
If you are lucky enough to own a DSLR camera (because I know they can be really expensive to get your hands on). You may prefer the photograph this takes. One of the reasons I use both, however, is it is not always practical to carry a bulky camera 24/7. However, if I’m staging my own photographs at home. I’ll be on my Nikon.
So what can I use as a prop?
There are so many things that you can use as props, Below is a list of just some ideas:
Did I mention there isa lot of things that you can use to set up photos for your blog? Hopefully, this list will be able to inspire you to think of more ideas!
There are always more ways to find the perfect Photograph:
Don’t forget not all blog media needs to be staged either. I’m a constant photo taker. I can’t help it. It’s like taking photos is just in my blood.
I’ve started learning how to create my own blog images as much as I can. But don’t forget there are still so many amazing websites that you can find free stock photographs from, and you won’t have to worry about copyright issues with these.
All you need to do, a simple google search for free stock images and tons of useful sites come up. Plus if you are using canava, their image library is huge! a lot of phone editing apps will have the same things.
I would love to hear, what your photo process is, and how you set up your photos. If you found this post helpful check our 7 must-have apps for bloggers, here.
If you didn’t already know. It’s mental health awareness week. This year’s theme is all about body image. You can read more about the Mental Health Foundation here.
What is mental health?
Mental health has always been something that is really close to my heart as I face my own struggles and challenges alongside many of my friends and family. Mental health is defined as a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. Did you know that one in four adults in the UK is likely to have a mental health problem at some stage in their lifetime, that’s what the experts say. That’s a lot of people. So not one of us should ever feel that we are alone or no one will understand, there will always be someone that will understand how you are feeling and maybe experiencing the same things.
My battle with negative body image
It is crazy to think that finally in 2019 the world is finally acknowledging that not everyone is a size, zero picture-perfect models. Magazines and companies are finally beginning to embrace our curves and imperfections. No longer do we have to flip through magazines to think we could never get away with their image because it’s being broadcast more and more to embrace yourself.
But let’s face it. It hasn’t always been this way! My school years were a prime example. I grew up with twisted hips which meant I walked differently to everyone else. I needed corrective surgery to set my legs straight, but now when I look back was the surgery more a cosmetic thing? So I could be the norm. Whatever that is?
Not just my legs, I’ve never been stick thin whether and I have always struggled to keep weight off. I get anxiety when I get dressed in the morning because I want to look perfect all the time. It’s so much pressure. Nothing ever feels just right.
Talking is so IMPORTANT.
It is so important that as individuals we talk to each other more than we are now. I am not gonna lie it is not always easy to open up, but it is so worth it. I often can’t bring myself to share my own negativity but one thing I do know, I am not the only one who hates her curves and wishes that I could have better skin. There’s always been so much judgement in this world. It is so easy to let negativity win and then we become depressed, lonely, and affected by the perfect image instead of embracing who we are and what we have. Anyone who tells you that they are 100% happy with their own body image, they are lying. There’s nothing wrong in trying to improve ourselves, buying new clothes and improving the way we look as long as it is you that is happy with yourself and that you are improving for no one other than yourself.
This is me, I am not perfect, I’m not skinny, I love to hide behind my make up. But it is me, and there is only one me.
What we can do to be more body positive?
Remember that not everybody is the same
It is time to stop comparing yourself to other people. Each and every one of us has our whether insecurities but it’s time to embrace yourself and learn to be unique in a positive manner.
acknowledge yourself and any low self-esteem you have
It’s not always easy and like I just said we are all different and we deal with things in different ways but this is such an important step in a journey to being body positive and learning your own self-worth.
Face your biggest critic. Yourself.
My dad has always had a famous quote to me, ‘you are your worst enemy’ and do you know what? he is right. It is natrual that you are your worst critique, so its important to learn to stop being so hard on yourself, and I know myself how hard of a challenge that really is.
Realise how beautiful you really are
Write a list of positive things that you like about yourself and whenever you are feeling low, read your list and remember why you love yourself
It’s so important that we look after the most important person in your life. Yourself. There is one you and you need to take care of you. whether it is being more healthy to have a little pamper evening, make sure you are doing things for you.
Set yourself reasonable targets
Don’t set yourself goals that you know you are not going to be able to stick too. If you set yourself unrealistic targets then you are allowing yourself opportunities to be negative.
I would love to hear your thoughts and feelings on body image and how this affects you, how do you keep yourself positive when you don’t feel so confident?

Want to learn more about me? How about reading the A to Z of me post here.
Generally, we spend so much time using our mobile phones. Phones are not just phones anymore, they are more like mini personal assistants. As a blogger, if we are not tied to the computer the chances are we’re steaming from the iPad or phone, or maybe that is just me? Whether it is checking social media, reading through a million emails, which I as a person can be quite bad at doing, It is probable that it is blog related in some form. There are millions of apps out there afterall.
I have learnt so much from blogging lately I share more here.
So what apps are best for blogging? Well, these are my top 7 personal preference, these apps I connect to me promoting and building my blog.
This had to be my first mention because Canava has literally become my favourite app for making blog graphics and logos! I also find it useful for some of my other hobbies (I’ve recently been using Canava to make labels for penpaling) Canava is great and has a wide range of stock photos that you can use and include on your blog, and there is a free version. It is definitely worth checking this one out.
Have I mentioned how much I have fallen in love with Twitter recently? I use this a lot more then I do Facebook, and I have met so many friends and learnt so much through the blogging community just by being on twitter. not only the massive community and support that being on twitter has given me though. Twitter is great for promoting your work.
I am still a new user to Blog Lovin! but I am loving this more and more every day!
I am often saying ‘Pinterest is life’ I am constantly inspired by others. I am able to share my own pins promoting my ideas with links to my blog. Its a social platform heaven. I would suggest to any new blogger to take a look into Pinterest in a heartbeat.
Depending on your blogger platform you should definitely have your blogging app installed to your devices. This will keep you up to date with your blog constantly. It does not really need a big explanation for being a top app.
When I do not have one of my many note books to score down my thoughts and blog ideas for later, I’m using OneNote? Now Why would someone who owns a million notebooks need a digital one? I have One Note installed on all devices, I keep digital back ups of most of my notes, and I always try to use One Note when I‘m out somewhere where I don’t have access to a pen and paper, After all you never know when your gonna have a brain wave. If you arenot a massive stationary fan, then you definitely need to consider OneNote for blog planning.
Finally Hoote Suite, This is a great app for scheduling content to multiple social media accounts. I’m also a fan of the calendar view that this app had to show when your posts are scheduled for!
What apps do you use to keep your blog on its toes?
I remember, I first started creating blog content years ago, and it was kinda this thing that I would start, stop, start and stop, and really this never went anywhere. I then started looking at other blogs and then I got so inspired, that was it, I wanted to start my own fully functioning working blog and it would work! … that was the plan and I am still working on it to this day! When I started this blog, it was a step up from the times before, I don’t actually think I realized how big of a world I was really stepping foot into. (and no I do not mean that negatively!) The addiction to blogging, The social community of bloggers, the world I was entering into, and how amazing having a blog could be. How Having a blog, has changed me, because it has. Since I started blogging, I have come across new opportunities, met new people and really opened up a massive door to enjoying a new aspect of me.
Blogging is not easy, and its not an all bliss world. So I wanted to share with you guys how much I have learnt, and what so far!
The blogging community is massive
There are so many people out there in the world and so many others that you can meet and become friends with. Each friend I have made from blogging has been amazing and so supportive.
Blogging is hard work
Ok so if you are thinking about starting off a blog, please do not get under the impression that its gonna be a hit success on day 1, that doesn’t really happen. Your blog is only as successful as you make it, and to make your blog really work, you need to put as much time and effort into your work as possible! I wouldn’t give up on the down days though I’ve found that at times it’s so tempting to give up! but if you give up on your dreams, they don’t happen.
Planning is important
If you are like me keeping a blog plan is important. Planning means you are able to keep up to date, remember important dates and tasks. Planning is a great way of keeping your blog going. especially when it comes to sharing your blog and gaining engagement.
You can end up thinking about your blog 24/7
Literally, Once you start writing a blog you can end up thinking of your work constantly! It is like a full addiction, a massive passion and becomes a massive part of your life. Now I am not just talking about the next time your gonna get to tap your fingers on the keyboard and make the next post for your readers, the more you get into your blog, the more you begin to put in, money, sweat, and tears. It is not just about the content at all, its the sharing and promoting, preparation and care.
Research is so important
I am a passionate learner! Literally. I love to learn new things, I love to be inspired by others, so that being said it probably goes in my favour when it comes to my blogging life. I’m constantly reading others blogs, pinteresting and reading about blogging, and learning off other bloggers. There is a serious legal side to some things, and I have read about how some have got themselves in trouble by doing certain things. By doing my research into what I am doing and taking interest in other bloggers around the world, I am teaching myself more and more every day.
Images are a pretty big deal
Although words are a massive part of blogging of course! Images are just important, and you wanna have decent images at that. There are hundreds of stock images sites, that allow you to use their images for free. But taking your own images is fun, gives your blog a unique creative twist, and definitely gives it that personal touch of your personality.
Security and Backups
If you’ve read my previous posts, you may have been reading when I nearly lost my blog. Oh my GOD. My biggest blogging Fail (you can read that here) That day was awful. I had been having a downtime and not been checking my dashboard, my site had been attacked and taken over with a virus, I don’t know what it was but I never even knew a website could be attacked with such things till that day, and so straight away I learnt the importance of backing up your work! Every single month!
Scheduling posts is a blogging GOD
When I am feeling particularly creative and inspired one day I am able to write a couple of blog posts in a few hours and schedule them to come out online at different times. which is such a good thing as I can organize my blog better then I can organize myself sometimes?
It’s a competitive world
Have you ever heard the phrase its a dog eat dog world? hmm? I suppose a bloggers world is the same, in some ways! Each blogger has very similar goals to yours! you need to try and remember that! because you should never let a negative hit put you down on your own work!
Is there anything you have learnt since you started a blog? Like I mentioned earlier! I love to learn off others! so leave me a comment below with something you have learnt 🙂
So the best thing about the blogging community has to be being inspired by other amazing bloggers. Like Mxrshmarshmellows blog. Who just created a very similar post. It really made me question what makes me happy and got me thinking.
So I thought it would be great to share what makes me happy with you guys. I have done a similar post before, here.

With only days to go till March 31st Mothers day is fast approaching! and if you haven’t been so organised and got your presents sorted for mum and maybe even nan yet! I thought I’d write a list of ideas of what you could do, without overspending!
Hand Made Card
You don’t even have to be on a tight budget to make a hand made mothers day card, I love receiving a hand made cards and I’m not yet a mum! (maybe one day though) My mum makes cards and always says I should be making my own! a lot more work goes into a handmade card, so there’s more to appreciate!
What mum wouldn’t be chuffed as when you hand over a bunch of flowers and a card. Flowers are brilliant for putting a smile on their face.
I have a massive candle obsession, I love having a few tea lights lit in the evening. Perfect setting. Why not treat your mum to some candles that smell nice!
Who doesn’t like chocolates? I know my mum would always appreciate a box of Maltesers? (especially when the dog hasn’t got to them before her)
Poundland’s Mothers Day collection is especially awesome this year! my particular favourite is the oversized ducks! they are so frigging cute! so had to buy us a pink duck as well as my mum one! (no particular reason other then it is an awesome huge rubber duck)
And it is not just Poundland! Home Bargains and B&M store also Have loads of cute little gifts for Mother’s Day.
But like I said before Mother’s Day isn’t about how much you spend. It’s about showing your mum and your nan and the line of the woman in your life some appreciation.
Please note: I have not been paid to promote any of these stores I am simply sharing my thoughts.
