Happy Monday guys. I can not believe that it was 3 years ago that I started my blogging journey with AlexaJade.co.uk. They do say time flies when you are having fun. Well for me blogging and life have been a rollercoaster of emotions not just ‘fun’. I have not written a birthday post for my blog before but I was so shocked to realise last month that this year was 3 years of AlexaJade blogging. So this post is just a short message appreciating my blog as well as expressing happy birthday to AlexaJade.
Happy Birthday, AlexaJade.co.uk.
In the past 3 years, I have had so many ups and downs in my life. As I was reminded that my blog birthday was coming up I took some time to look back over my posts.
If you are one of my regular readers you will know how that the last year and a half I have struggled with my health. Meaning I had to leave my job. I thought I was gonna be depressed and have to start a job I didn’t like. However, as I reflect on my health the things that have been going on have encouraged me to really focus on what I want out of life. The actual want to be my own boss is slowly becoming a dream come true.
It is so funny how much life changes and how you grow with your hobbies and passions. Some would say it is impossible! However, the more you work on your passions the further you will get in life! Stop fighting for what you don’t need in life and fight for what you want in life. Oh, and you are never too old to start something new! I hate to hear people using their age as a reason not to step outside of their comfort zone!
Blogging has given me Fabulous new opportunities and a way of thinking as I definitely feel that since I have been blogging my blog has had a positive effect on my mental health!
So hopefully in a few years time I will have celebrated tons of blog birthday’s and plenty of milestones! I hope you guys are working just as hard on your dreams! don’t let anything stop you! you are amazing.
I am really excited to be sharing my first of hopefully many more craft how-to posts, especially when it comes to the Cricut. I recently shared an Instagram post of a shadow box I had filled with 3D flowers, and a few people have inspired me to write by asking how to make these.
Since I have been playing around in the world of Cricut I have absolutely loved creating shadow boxes full of colourful 3D flowers. As much as I love playing with vinyl, this is one of my favourite projects to do. These flowers are so very simple to make.
What you will need:
hot glue gun
The time needed to make:
depending on how many flowers you are intended in to make. I would allow a few hours for this project. Individually each flower takes approximately 5 minutes.
You will need to print your flower swirls from the Cricut projects. You can use the flowers guide that’s available in the projects here. I have opted to only print this one of the three in the project as it makes rose flowers, which is my favourite. For this shadow box, I have used A4 card stock, and fitted 6 swirls to a sheet, this did result in the flowers being quite small, however, you can make these any size that you like. Why not try experimenting with sizes? If you don’t own a Cricut you could try making a stencil and cutting these out with scissors, unfortunately, it will take some time though.
Remove the excess paper from your rose swirls. So that you are left with just the cut-outs… now it’s time to turn the swirls into flowers! I keep a craft knife by me ready to cut anything that may not have cut completely with the Cricut. It depends on the thickness of the card most of the time.
I prefer to use slim tweezers to start turning. Grasp these to the very end of the swirl. (Leaving the centre bit for last) twist the card around the tweezers basically rolling up the card until you read the end.
Once you have finished turning your swirls, You will need to position the centre at the top so that you can secure your flower together.
Add a pea-size amount of hot glue to the bottom of your flower and press this down with your fingers for about 20 seconds…
My top advice would be to be careful with your fingers. I have burnt my fingers making roses many times.
What to do with them…
there are plenty of things you can use these beautiful flowers for. As I mentioned before my favourite is a shadow box, and then vinyl on the glass. But you could also use these to decorate the outside of frames and mirrors.
I have recently started an Instagram page for me to share all my crafty shenanigans on called crafty hearts corner, so if you would like to see more of what I am up too with craft, give this a follow.
Good morning guys! I’m very excited to be starting a variety of posts to meet the bloggers. The blogging world has such a big place in my heart. I have made so many friends and learnt so much of the community that I wanted to give back by sharing these amazing people with my readers. So I’m starting off with a fantastic blogger from Oxfordshire, Sarah who blogs at SarahTradeMark.
I won’t lie. I am absolutely envious of Sarah’s beautifully coloured Hair. If you are into vibrant colours as well I would highly recommend you take a read of this post. Which is one of my favourites from SarahTradeMark.
I asked Sarah to share with us some advice from her blogging experiences…
1) SarahTradeMark, What made you start blogging?
It all started when I was using a new face mask and liked it so much that I wanted to share my views with others, I created a blog and started sharing short reviews on my current makeup and skincare products.
2) And What advice would you give to a new blogger?
Don’t compare yourself to others. There will always be people better out there but everyone is unique and you should concentrate on finding your own style.
3) Where do you see your blog ‘SarahTradeMark’ in 5 years time?
I hope to still be blogging and hope to be posting more good and household products as well as fashion. I want to keep the same style of writing but want to post about a larger variety of products.
I’d love to say a massive thank you to SarahTadeMark for taking part in my meet the bloggers segment.
If you would like to take part, please pop me an email too email@example.com
So you have finally finished writing that amazing piece, you have spent hours on this, and its all ready to go. well, the words are ready, but what about the photos? What are you using to catch the attention of your readers? Remember as bloggers we are all still learning all the time.
Your media is as important as your words!
We all know that your writing content is the most important, however, As much as your writing is so important when it comes to posting your blog post, photographs are just as important. Especially images that are relevant to the subject you are talking about. I mean would you really have photos of food when your talking of fashion? or anything else that’s a complete opposite to what your writing about.
What should I be using to take my Photograph?
Firstly if you are under the impression that you need a fancy camera before you are able to take a decent photo, you are literally incredibly wrong. I mean in this day and age all you need is your phone or your tablet. Your smart device is the perfect tool you can use, to be able to take pictures on. Let us face it. who doesn’t have their phone pretty much 24 hours of the day?
Personally, I own both a DSLR and an iPhone, I am happy to admit that I use both.
If you are lucky enough to own a DSLR camera (because I know they can be really expensive to get your hands on). You may prefer the photograph this takes. One of the reasons I use both, however, is it is not always practical to carry a bulky camera 24/7. However, if I’m staging my own photographs at home. I’ll be on my Nikon.
So what can I use as a prop?
There are so many things that you can use as props, Below is a list of just some ideas:
Did I mention there isa lot of things that you can use to set up photos for your blog? Hopefully, this list will be able to inspire you to think of more ideas!
There are always more ways to find the perfect Photograph:
Don’t forget not all blog media needs to be staged either. I’m a constant photo taker. I can’t help it. It’s like taking photos is just in my blood.
I’ve started learning how to create my own blog images as much as I can. But don’t forget there are still so many amazing websites that you can find free stock photographs from, and you won’t have to worry about copyright issues with these.
All you need to do, a simple google search for free stock images and tons of useful sites come up. Plus if you are using canava, their image library is huge! a lot of phone editing apps will have the same things.
I would love to hear, what your photo process is, and how you set up your photos. If you found this post helpful check our 7 must-have apps for bloggers, here.
