10 reasons to love April

Since I have been feeling really down with the constant illness and chronic pain lately, I thought it was about time to give some reasons to feel a bit happier, so today I am an irritated girl who is trying to be a little bit more positive this month!
Admittedly it has been a really rubbish time, and it feels like our main adventures out lately are to hospitals and DR’s surgeries until we find out 100% what the heck is up with me… Anyway, I am not moaning I am being positive and since we are still at the beginning of April (pretty much anyway) I wanted to share with you guys 10 reasons why you should appreciate this fabulous month!

Fresh start month

I am not 100% sure why, but I have always thought of April as a month of fresh starts, apparently, I am not the only one. we are now 4 months clear of the Christmas season and it is a few months of enjoying the sun and the happy season before we prepare for cold winter months again! The first day of spring has now been and its time for a spring clean, mentally as well.

It’s April Showers

I’m not saying that the fact it is raining a lot is amazing but, does anyone else get the drip, drip drop little April showers song go through their head constantly this month? I do! it is stuck in my head all month every time I hear someone say ‘Oh it’s raining again, April Showers’ … I must watch Bambi. I love Bambi.

The month of yellow

I literally think that one of the first things I associate April with is the colour yellow, and I am really loving this colour right now! The month of yellow, and the month of Daffodils (see what I am saying there?).

Pastels

Ok, I may have already mentioned colour just now but this bit is slightly different, I love all pastel colours and there are so many new things in pastel! which I always love pastel colours! Easter spills lots of this because pastel colours do feel very springy! 🙂

Nature is coming back out

The cold winter months will soon be behind us, and already this month we have had some beautiful sunshine-filled days. I have especially noticed that on the farm the wildlife is all coming out of its hiding and the deers are back running around the fields at dusk. I absolutely love playing spot the deer.
It is not just the animals either. I LOVE blossom tree’s, and they always start blossoming this month, they make me super happy.

April

April is a new financial year

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. For some people, I’ve noticed a lot of chat how April is a big money month for them, so everything is a little bit tighter! I know that this is the same for us this month! but oh well. April is the start of the new financial year, so let’s use this as a positive? New year 😉 New me kinda thing.

The clocks went forward

YES! at the end of March, our clocks went forward! now If you love summer like me its more exciting that we are gaining light and sunset is getting later, rather then thinking you lost an hour sleep that night!

Its Chocoholic heaven

It is so hard to say no to some chocolate in April as its nearly Easter, be it a little late this year. Pretty hard to resist when you are going to slimming world! so far we’ve been pretty good! but I can not wait to get my hands on a chocolate egg!

The Sun is coming

Slowly but surely the summer period is just around the corner, and OK so we are not in summer yet! and already I have said why are people wearing shorts already? Its hardly boiling, but the sun is out, the sky is bright and peoples moods are lifting. I love this time of year when you are slowly saying goodbye woolly jumper.

Happiness

Last but not least one thing I love about April is no matter what is going on, or how rubbish and down you are feeling, April seems to bring in some happiness to the year no matter what.

What do you love about April? I would love to hear what makes you smile this month?

Are we becoming too addicted to social media?

Hands up if you know yourself, that you are hooked to social media? Do you literally enjoy spending hours upon hours online, maybe your chatting to friends?
Maybe or you have put another picture up on your account and you are waiting to see how many likes that this one has reached, or maybe your one of the many people that brag about their social media following (innocently of course)!

It could even be that you’ve tuned in to your favourite youtube idol for their weekly Vlog. Is your hand up? Mine is, and I do fully admit that.
This month has been a bad health month for me, and I am currently on long term sick whilst the hospital is investigating what the heck is up and whilst I’m struggling to be off work, I have had a lot of time to myself. A lot of time scrolling on my phone, and the iPad… and then I’ll even turn the laptop on. That’s bad, isn’t it?
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest…. and the million others? Seriously, that takes up a lot of time to catch up on all the profiles we have! How many hours do you think the average person spends browsing a day?

Social media is just normality now?

The internet itself is now the most powerful way for anyone to become known! Talent ages are now taking to social sites such as Instagram and youtube to look for the next big thing! and we all know that if your online presence is big enough it could just be you! we are all aiming for the same goal really are we not? it is not just talent that is being headhunted through the interwebs but businesses and major companies are relying on us the media users to advertise for them! The opportunity is out there and many are getting paid to post online! it is crazy and wonderful! I mean the internet has developed in so many ways, but with every rainbow there’s rain! Social media and the high standards being wanted has a stressful and serious side that needs to be understood before getting involved in such things.

Fancy reading a different post of mine? how about 10 home decor pieces I love, here.

Are we addicted to being online?

So what does it actually mean? to be addicted to social media? I would say that because in 2019, the digital era is at its highest (and still growing) the addiction to social media acceptance is an unseen but overwhelming element of life!

Addiction is such a strong word, I didn’t really like it the first time I heard someone say ‘I’m literally addicted to’ such and such. but at the end of the day, there is such a strong connection between addiction and a continues need/want to do something. There are so many factors and we can all get so addicted to checking our profiles at times. Who wouldn’t want to have the coolest status, and the most Instagramable pictures to upload without even realising it had happened. How many times have you taken a photo! just to immediately say “this is so my next profile picture” Hmmm, That sounds like something I have said so many times!

Heres to deep thinking coming up…

Take a moment to think about this. How many followers do you have? 50? 100? 10000? it doesn’t matter how many! have you ever put something online that others have liked, shared, commented or reacted to in any way! and now another important question… do you know that person who interacted with you? it might sound silly, but could that person be idolising your profile as something they would like to be? have you ever thought about it like that, I hadn’t but I knew that I was watching other people and I knew that I was setting goals in ambition to be the success that they seem to have achieved. When you start to think about it the other way around, That is a bit scary right?

Social Media Influencers

Social media influencers can be anyone. We all know that there are influencers who have a large network of followers.
This week I watched the BBC panorama documentary on the million-dollar selfie! It was so interesting to watch, as an inspiring blogger. I was able to take notes of where I could improve on getting my blogging journey getting myself out there and seen, as well as explanations on what social media influencers have done that have got themselves in major trouble.

Confidence is something that I am constantly working on, read my post on what I am doing to boost my confidence, here.

So this it was not a program sugar coating the dream life, because no one really wakes up in the morning with a flawless airbrushed photo-ready look, do they? well, I defiantly do not! the program was based on highlighting the problems that social media influencers have begun to face. How seriously scary is it that even a child under 16 can be influenced and conned into products being sold online, as a result of a social influencer advising this. I think anyone with an online account needs to take a minute to think about what they are doing, because really we as humans, do not know the true influence we are having. if you do not know the serious impact we are having on the viewers hitting like.

So here are some things to consider…

  • Are you spending too much time online? if that’s a yes then please take a break! You don’t need to post your whole life online! and taking a break from your phone means you have more time to create memories and you can’t do that if you’re not living!
  • Think about removing any content that you have posted that could have a negative effect on someone else! only you will know if this is something that you need to do!
  • Spread positive vibes with others, you never know when they need to hear some happy words that day!
  • Stop trying to create a picture-perfect world! the world you have is already beautiful enough!

So what are your thoughts?

I would love to know your thoughts on social media. Do you believe that social media can be an addiction? or do you have an argument against this? Please leave a comment for me if you can.

Things I love about Christmas and why

The month is finally upon us! Happy 1st December guys.
It’s insane how quick 2018 has gone by this year, so much has happened.
I’m really excited that this is the first post of many this month! I’ve decided to challenge myself more. Since it is the 1st and Christmas is upon us, I thought I would share with you my top 10 on what I love about Christmas.

christmas

Spending time with loved ones

This had to go to the top of my list. One of the best and most important things to me when it comes to the Christmas period is the time spent with my loved ones.

Festivities

To be honest, I feel like Festivities happen earlier and earlier in the year these days, but I suppose that’s because we’re just too busy as people now, and there’s just so much fun to fit in. Going out around the Christmas market, grabbing a festive hot chocolate and starting to feel the festive feel!
When it comes to this time of year and you begin to see little kids faces light up with joy as the thought of Santa coming to visit them it cropping up, Elf is causing mischief on the shelf, how can you not think warm festive vibes.

Stuck on thinking of something to do this Christmas, how about checking out my Christmas activity list, here.

SPARKLES:

Well, this is an obvious one on my list, I love sparkles any time of year! and you should always live by the rule that sparkles and sequins are not just for the holidays! but since they are a holiday favourite, I love how much sparkle is out right now at this time of year.

Christmas food & drink

There is no way of avoiding it, no matter how hard you’re trying to be good. Maybe it is at home, or maybe it’s in the office, Could even be the multitude of nights and meals out in the run-up to Christmas. Who couldn’t mention the food when it comes for their love about Christmas.

Check out my favourite Gingerbread cookie recipe, here.

Festive Colours

I love them all! when you just look at something and can think ‘oh it’s so Christmasy’. Dark metallic colours always seem to catch my eye. Purples, reds, blues, golds, silver and my favourite colour any way rose gold. It is true that colours really do make the season!

Christmas Decorations

Ok, I admit it If I had my way the Christmas decorations would have been up probably halfway through November. You always know that its officially Christmas when the decorations have gone up, and the tree lights are twinkling in the background whilst chilling on the sofa, glass of wine in one hand and Christmasy cookies in the other! Oh yes!
We don’t have our decorations up just yet! but within the next few days, the lounge will be twinkling! can not wait!

Christmas Jumpers

They spend all year in our drawers waiting for this month! yep, that’s right, the return of the Christmas jumper and they are definitely on my list of things I love about Christmas. Nothing says Christmas spirit better than a cheesy Christmas selfie in an in-between tasteful but still a little tacky Christmas jumper. HO HO HO.

Traditions

We all have our traditions at this time of year and granted there’s probably a few that are not on our like list for most of us, BUT traditions are just a thing. It is hard not to get excited about the little things, whether its a day out. a movie you always watch. or whatever it is you do on Christmas eve. I love having traditions that feel just as special every time round!

Christmas winter smells

When it gets to this time of year I love the smells that start popping up, especially gingerbread. Yep, gingerbread ANYTHING.
I’m a total sucker for Christmassy scented candles, bubble bath, room sprays. Literally the lot.

Christmas Eve

Finally I think my favourite day, throughout December I think my favourite time of it all has to Christmas eve. Its almost a calm before the storm of Christmas day, but still a very busy day. The hustle and bustle before people eventually just give up and finally start enjoying their Christmas.

I bet that there’s so many more things that I could list on what I love about Christmas. I found this a really list of things to write.
I’d love to hear others favourite things? Do you have a favourite tradition, smell, food? Leave a comment!

Southampton pride 2018

running for the 3rd time, getting bigger each year Southampton pride has been an incredible day out. It had been yet another glorious summer day, the sun shining, heat blazing, the colours sparkles and queens were out to play at Southampton civic centre filled with thousands to celebrate for Southampton pride 2018. Amazing!

I really do love the atmosphere at pride festivals no matter where you are in the country. It’s like the city has a major mood lift and It really is ‘fabulous darling!’ I noticed that the moment you got into town that everyone around had an energetic and positive warm attitude towards each other and I’ve probably said this before when writing about Brighton pride but it’s so true!

southampton pride 2018

Southampton pride 2018 has really been a brilliant day.

I do think that especially since the first Southampton pride the organisers have done an amazing job at growing the festival side of things. Watching the acts that were performing on the stage throughout the day were brilliant. I was gutted to of left before the cheeky girls hit the stage this year. But seeing the other acts were still as great!

I hope that in the years to come for Southampton that the parade itself is more concentrated on. I’m not at all saying that the parade was bad. But it definitely was missing something! Maybe just some music? But still great as it is.

Can’t wait for pride season again next year.

My favourite bath bomb from lush, The Intergalactic.

Ok admittedly I am a little bit delayed on this one, it has been a busy time but I really wanted to give my thoughts on this lovely little bath bomb I used this weekend. My new favourite bath bomb from Lush.

This is not a sponsored post, and all thoughts are my own.

If you are not into bath bombs, how about checking out my reasons to love Poundland post, here.

Lately, I have grown a massive love for the bath bomb. I never used to be a big fan of baths, much preferred a quick, easy and refreshing shower. Maybe it is an age thing, but recently the idea of a nice soak in a bubble-filled tub makes me smile! Don’t get me wrong though, the bath has to be perfect. I’m talking nice smells, bubbles, maybe the odd candle every now and then.

The intergalactic bath bomb from Lush!

bath bomb from lush

Just over a month ago I purchased a bath board! I knew bath times were getting serious when this entered the bathroom. Complete with Wine glass holder! I was quite pleased with my pound shop to find! (that’s right, I admit it came from the pound shop, was a bit more then £1. It was actually £5)

Anyway going back to my new found love of bath bombs… We actually have a small drawer in our bathroom now full of bath bombs and salts, enough to make every one a bit different (Im pretty certain I’m turning in to a compulsive buyer, but again thats another story)

Signs that you may be addicted to stationery? Could this be you?

This week I decided to take a trip to my favourite shop with my dad, an hilarious experience with someone who has never been in Lush. His exact words were “There were so many scents in there I didn’t know where to look first”.
I originally had it planned out! I’m dying to try Lush’s Golden Egg bath bomb, So I steered my dad around the shop looking for it. Somehow I managed to get sidetracked on my quest for the golden egg once more, I found this little beauty. ‘The Intergalactic’ Bright blue and pink colours, with shimmery glitter. PERFECT. This one cost me £4.50 and it was worth every penny.

I couldn’t wait to try this. Once I filled the bath up and I was not let down… In the bomb went and bright blue exploded into the water, a few more seconds and I could see the pink emerging.

Seriously How pretty is this water pattern?

Honestly, I rate this as one of the best bath bombs I’ve used so far. The water turned a beautiful royal blue colour, and you could see the shimmering glitter float around, in a calming way.  The smell of this also is lovely, there’s a strong peppermint smell, but I find that it is quite a calming smell to have.
There is one downfall on buying glittery bath bombs, The glitter in this one seems to stick to the bath really well, so took a proper wipe to get off again, but I wouldn’t let this put me off using The Intergalactic again.
